The Status Of Your Couple Affects Your Cardiac Health

THE STATUS OF YOUR COUPLE AFFECTS YOUR CARDIAC HEALTH

When husband and wife get along better, it is also cardiovascular health that benefits over the years, especially for men. This is shown in a long-term study conducted in England.

Cardiovascular health is partly dictated by the quality of the couple's life, at least in men. This is suggested by an English team whose authors interviewed married fathers about their marital relationship six and a half years after the birth of their child. They had to say whether it had been stable in those years, whether good or bad, or whether it had deteriorated or improved.

In addition, the authors analyzed several cardiovascular risk factors (blood pressure, heart rate, body mass index, lipid and blood sugar levels) at the time of birth and 19 years later. changes would occur after a latency period.

Bad cholesterol and overweight fade thanks to a good relationship

They show that men reporting an improvement in their relationship with their wives are the only ones to have benefited for their health with lower levels of bad cholesterol and weight loss. Conversely, a deterioration of the relationships was associated with an increase in blood pressure. And no major changes were observed in men whose relationships were stable over time.

Note that the differences would probably be less important for women. The authors indicate that they often have a more fulfilling social life and that the impact of the relationship with a spouse is likely to have less impact on their health.

  2. You bring up interesting points. I would love to see more studies conducted about this topic because I could see how our relationships affect our overall health.
